New Texting App Offers Automated Romance

Fake Girlfriend App

Sexting has reached an all-time low. A new app offers lonely guys the opportunity to receive loving texts from a non-existent girlfriend.

FakeGirlfriend, New York City-based app developer Ricky Robinett’s newest creation, sends texts from a fake “girlfriend” to your phone. Think of a sexier version of AOL Instant Messenger’s SmarterChild.

Using FakeGirlfriend is actually easier than texting a real girlfriend. All you do is save the number 212-804-6979 to your phone under a name of your choice – let’s say Tanisha – and send a text to the number. You’ll soon receive a “random girlfriend-esque message” from your beloved Tanisha.

The aptly named app FakeGirlfriend is free to use. Whether you’re looking for a laugh or you’re actually lonely enough to pretend it’s your real girlfriend on the other end, you can use it as many times as you want (or need, depending on how desperate you are.)

FakeGirlfriend currently boasts 15,000 Likes on Facebook and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. This isn’t the first time one of Robinett’s creations has reached the app stratosphere. According to his website, Robinett’s apps “have been used by hundreds of thousands of users and covered in multiple media outlets including: CNN, Huffington Post, TechCrunch, Mashable, VentureBeat and the Today Show.”

If you’ve got time to kill between “Angry Birds” sessions, FakeGirlfriend is one of many chuckle-worthy apps available. Check it out for a laugh or two. If you find yourself using it more than several times a day, however, it might be time to put up a personal ad.
